London’s iconic clock tower, officially renamed Elizabeth Tower in 2012 to honour Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee, stands 316 feet tall and houses the famous bell known as Big Ben. Completed in 1859, it features the world’s largest and most accurate four-faced clock. Though only the third-tallest clock tower in Britain, Big Ben remains one of the most recognisable landmarks in global architecture — an instant symbol of London.
The name "Big Ben" originally referred to the hour bell itself, most likely named after either champion heavyweight boxer Ben Caunt or Sir Benjamin Hall, who oversaw the bell’s installation. The tower’s exterior is richly decorated with shields featuring the national emblems of England (Tudor rose), Scotland (thistle), Northern Ireland (shamrock), and Wales (leek). In addition to the Great Bell that chimes on the hour, four smaller bells sound the Westminster Quarters melody every 15 minutes.
The Ugears Big Ben Model captures this architectural icon as part of Ugears’ World Cities collection. The model includes a section of the Houses of Parliament, crafted at 1:530 scale, with finished dimensions of 137 x 181 x 66 mm. Made from 63 precision laser-cut pieces of art-quality composite wood, Big Ben is rated "Easy" and can be assembled in about an hour.
