Step aboard the Hogwarts Express™ and relive the journey from Platform 9¾™ to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry™ with this detailed DIY wooden model train. Inspired by the iconic locomotive from the Harry Potter™ films, this mechanical model combines intricate engineering, interactive movement and display-worthy design in one magical build.
The model consists of three sections: a spring-powered locomotive, a coal tender and a passenger carriage. Powered by a metal spring motor, the locomotive features moving gears, wheels and connecting rods that create realistic motion as the train travels across smooth, flat surfaces. The completed train can travel up to 4 metres when coupled with the tender and carriage, or up to 6 metres when the locomotive is operated on its own.
The coal tender includes a storage compartment for the winding key or other small items, while the passenger carriage features three opening doors and a removable roof. Inside, special mounts allow the included Harry Potter™, Hermione Granger™ and Ron Weasley™ figurines to move from side to side as the train travels. The characters can also be displayed separately alongside the train to recreate scenes from the Wizarding World™.
Operating the train is simple and engaging. Wind the spring motor using the included key, switch the smokestack control from “Stop” to “Start”, and watch as the locomotive powers forward. The exposed mechanical elements provide a fascinating glimpse into the workings of the model while adding to its visual appeal. For display, the kit also includes a section of track and a Platform 9¾™ buffer stop, creating an attractive presentation piece even when the train is not in motion.
